Antipathy and Early Diagnosis

After getting a view on the concept of allopath with regards to the early diagnosis, let us turn towards another mode of treatment which is known as the Antipathic mode of treatment. This mode of treatment was put forward by the great Hippocrates and was developed into a system of medicine by Dr. C. Galen, who followed the principles of “Contraria Contrariis Curantur” which was forwarded by Hippocrates.

Thus in this method of Galen he has applied the knowledge of the above mentioned principle and have said that the application of medicine will be according to the opposite nature of the medicinal substances, to that of the disease. Thus in this case diagnosis and early diagnosis is done in order to select a medicine which will act as an exact opposite to the disease condition and hence cure by this means. The importance of early diagnosis lies in the fact that as soon as the diagnosis of the disease is made by the Antipathic physician, then only can he be able to select a medicine in the procedures of antipathy that may act in the opposite manner.

Although these methods have the advantages of early diagnosis and the fast treatment of any case because of the opposite nature of the medicines, and also the increase in the fame and reputation of the physician because the rapidness of the cure making process, yet there have been a lot of disadvantages which cannot be overlooked.

The main disadvantages include that the physician is after the single most troublesome symptom and hence the diagnosis of the entire case is affected, and so the patient may get relief of that particular symptom for the time being, that too is temporary, and the disease as a whole is not cured. Then another disadvantage is the disappearance of important symptoms from the vision of the physician for making a proper diagnosis.
